Our conversation today with Guy Curtis from Laurel Ridge Community College included Vivi Meder, TRIO Director to tell us about the program, qualification requirements, and what those accepted can expect from the program. Vivi explained the community that has formed among students in the program and gave details for how to qualify. Plus, she told us a few stories about students who've been successful in the program.

Vivi gave told us the history of the federal program and how long it's been offered at the college. TRIO Student Support Services are for: First Generation – A student whose mother and father both do not have a bachelor’s degree; Low-Income – A student who meets the federal low-income guidelines; Disability – A student with a documented disability.

The program provides academic advising, tutoring, transfer planning, financial aid assistance, financial literacy education, free printing, and other wrap-around support for participants.
