Strolling Strasburg: Tis the Season

Our conversation with Olivia Hilton, Director of Strategic Initiatives for the Town of Strasburg happened at Nancy's Coffee Bar as is often the case.
Olivia gave us details for the Veteran's Day Parade that happens on Saturday, November 12, 2022. The Town of Strasburg, in partnership with American Legion Post 77, will be hosting a Veterans Day Parade to honor local men and women who have served this country and community. They are inviting all veterans, (and any classic car owners willing to transport) to meet at the Legion (157 E. Washington) at 12:30pm. The parade will begin at the Legion, travel down N. Holliday and E. King to end at the Strasburg Square. The community and business owners are invited to N. Holliday & E. King to cheer on the parade participants. All are welcome to the Strasburg Square (216 E. King) where a short program will follow, highlighting our individual branches with the Strasburg High School band and Sherando National Honor Society.
We also talked about the holiday festivities - "Tis the Season" - that include the Mistletoe Market, Hot Cocoa Connections, and the Christmas Parade, followed by the tree lighting. The events begin on Saturday, December 3, 2022, when the Town of Strasburg kicks off the 'Tis the Season Celebration in the Strasburg Square with a Mistletoe Market (noon til 4pm), hosted by the Strasburg Farmers Market and Hot Cocoa Connections (1pm -4pm.) You can sample different cocoas from local organizations, get a headstart on gifts, listen to carolers from Signal Knob Middle School and sneak a peek of SANTA! This is free to the community but cocoa is only available until it's gone! Following those events, the Parade on King, hosted by the Strasburg Business Alliance, will begin at 4:30pm. Once Santa and Mrs. Claus reach the Square, the tree lighting ceremony will take place.
In addition to the festivities on Saturday, the Town of
Strasburg will also host the Strasburg Home Decorating
Contest again this year. Olivia told us how the contest started and
how much it's grown in recent years. Maps will be available
digitally after December 15, 2022 with all participating homes
marked with a yard sign and accompanying number. The community can
view these festive homes from December 15-31, 2022, with the

Before we wrapped up our conversation, Olivia told us about a few updates to the town's Facade Grant Program. She explained how it will work and what the grants can be used for. The Facade Grant Program is a 50/50 matching grant open to commercial and mixed-use properties within the Community Commercial zone to improve and enhance their external building components.
