Contributions: African Americans in the Shenandoah Valley at The MSV

I took a field trip to the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley last week to record today's show with Nick Powers, Curator of Collections for the MSV. He gave me a full tour while we talked about the newest exhibition at the museum: Contributions: African Americans in the Shenandoah Valley. Nick explained why this exhibition is important, how they've acquired many of the pieces, and the local connections that you'll find at every turn.
Nick also told me how long it typically takes from inception to final placement of an exhibition and that they're normally planning 2-3 years in advance of an opening.
Julie Armel (Deputy Director, Community Relations) joined us to give the details about visiting the MSV and told us about a few of the upcoming exhibitions: Danny Lyon: Memories of the Southern Civil Rights Movement opening April 2 - July 31; and, OrigamiintheGarden opening May 28 - November 13.
