Tourism Tuesday: Museum of the Shenandoah Valley

We pre-recorded today's conversation via Zoom for Tourism Tuesday - Winchester/Frederick County edition - with Justin Kerns from Winchester/Frederick County Convention & Visitor's Bureau and his guest, Julie Armel, Deputy Director of Community Relations for The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. Julie gave us an update on the Museum of the Shenandoah Valley's re-opening and the safety precautions they've put in place to protect their patrons and their staff. She also told us about several events that are happening at the museum including:
- their new outdoor exhibit: David Roger's Big Bugs - visitors to Big Bugs will stroll beneath a 10-foot-tall daddy long legs spider. In front of Glen Burnie House, an 18-foot-long praying mantis weighing 1,200 pounds lurks. And on the pond of the Water Garden, a 17-foot-wide dragonfly hovers. In all, the traveling exhibition brings ten fascinating sculptures to the Museum’s seven-acre gardens.
- their virtual gardens at night concert series that's been moved to Facebook Live each month;
- an update on their trails: 90 acres of the largest green space in the city of Winchester open to the public—for free, year-round—with more than three miles of trails for walking, running, and biking through fields, woods, and wetlands slated to open in late November;
- their new indoor exhibit: The Bodice Project - an inspirational exhibition that is beginning its national museum tour at the MSV, The Bodice Project illustrates the struggles and triumphs of those battling breast cancer and addresses the question of “Who am I now?” at the MSV from July 11 through November 1, 2020.
