We pre-recorded today's conversation via Zoom with Elise from United Way Northern Shenandoah Valley & Lauren Cummings from Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition to talk about the opioid epidemic and the impact COVID-19 has had on treatment, drug court and fundraising. Lauren gave us an update on overdose statistics for our region and explained how the pandemic has affected those numbers. She told us how meetings & drug court hearings have adapted to the new circumstances with virtual meetings and more in-person follow-ups, and encouraged people to still seek treatment regardless of their virus fears. She also told us about their upcoming 4th annual Run for Recovery fundraiser that will take place virtually this year on Saturday, October 10, 2020. Participants can run anytime that day at your choice of location (outside, treadmill at home or at the gym, etc.) Download the event flyer here: Run-for-Recovery-flyer-2020 You can register for the event here: http://roadtorecovery.info/run-for-recovery/ For more information about Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition, visit their website: http://roadtorecovery.info/ Elise gave us the details for Day of Caring that will take place on September 16, 2020 this year and explained how the event will look a little different this year from the types of projects they'll be completing to the small numbers of volunteers on each of those projects to allow for social distancing. She reminded us that the Rubbermaid Sale will happen on Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 8am - 12pm in the Belk Parking lot at Apple Blossom Mall.
