We recorded today's show in the board room at United Way NSV with Elise Stine Dolinar, Director of Marketing & Outreach for UWNSV and her guest, Lauren Cummings from Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition. The Northern Shenandoah Valley Substance Abuse Coalition (NSVSAC) is a coalition of law enforcement, health care, substance abuse treatment and youth advocacy organizations and families impacted by substance abuse and addiction in the Winchester region. The group formed in May 2014 following a community heroin summit in Winchester convened by the Northwest Virginia Regional Drug Task Force. Our conversation included discussion about the UW grant for peer-to-peer counseling and the impact that program has on those in recovery. Lauren also told us about the recent CVS Health/Aetna Foundation’s $1 million grant to the organization which will help fuel the Coalition’s new Law Enforcement Overdose Intervention Program.
