We were joined in the studio today by Charity Michael, Director of Our Place and Lydia Mahan, Coordinator for the Berryville center. Our Place is a social model group that was established in March of 2004 by the Shenandoah Area Agency on Aging with the assistance of a grant from the Brookdale Foundation. Community churches have opened their space to support the programs. The two programs at this time are held 10am-3pm at Crums United Methodist Church, 2832 Crums Church Rd. in Berryville VA on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays; and, at St. John’s United Methodist Church 116 South High St. in Edinburg, VA on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The goal of Our Place is to accept each person as an individual while understanding their changing needs. Our Place offers a friendly, stimulating environment for adults with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or memory loss who are unable to be alone during the day. It provides much needed socialization and a safe environment. Fees are determined on a sliding scale according to monthly income and ranges from $10.00 to $25.00 a day. For more information or to arrange an assessment, contact Charity Michael by calling: 540-635-7141 ext. 1016 or send her an email: c.michael@shenandoahaaa.com
