Our conversation today with Rachel Shaefer, Executive Director for Opportunity Scholars & Heather Waugh, their Outreach & Fundraising Manager included details about an upcoming event and an overview of their non-profit.
Rachel explained their mission and the work they do to connect with students and their families to facilitate a pathway for further education and a solid career in a number of different fields. She talked about the guidelines for those who wish to apply and the long-term relationships they establish.
Heather gave us details about their End of Summer Party happening Friday, August 18, 2023, from 5:30pm - 7:30pm at the Winchester City School Board Office (598 N. Kent Street, Winchester) and will feature games, food, and lots of fun activities. She encouraged anyone interested in the program as well as current participants to attend the free event. Opportunity
Scholars is a nonprofit organization that provides a pathway for
students to achieve a good career and a good life. They believe
that supporting high-value education and training for our youth is
an investment that strengthens local families, local communities,
and the local workforce.
Through
collaboration with students, their families, local schools, and
community business leaders, they help to create the pathway leading
to successful futures for our young people and build a pipeline of
professional, career, and technology workers to invigorate local
