United Way Day: Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity

We pre-recorded today's conversation via Zoom with Elise from United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley and Ryan Hall, Director of Marketing for Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity. We talked about the various services offered by Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity to those under-served in our community interested in owning a home or in need of help to maintain their existing home. Ryan explained the process and who qualifies as well as what's involved once a potential homeowner is approved. Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity serves residents in Frederick, Clarke & Shenandoah Counties as well as the City of Winchester. Ryan also reminded listeners to keep the Habitat ReStore in mind when in search of home improvement and other items. The Winchester ReStore is a home improvement outlet center that sells new and gently used goods donated by individuals, retail and building supply companies, and contractors. Items sold at ReStore are 50%-90% below retail and proceeds are used to further Blue Ridge Habitat for Humanity’s mission to build safe, decent, and affordable homes for families in need. Elise gave us the details for Day of Caring happening on September 16, 2020 and explained the changes that will be made to this year's projects to ensure safety for everyone. She also described some of the projects and encouraged "501c" organizations to submit projects for inclusion. She also talked about the Rubbermaid sale that will be happening on Saturday, June 27 from 8am - 12noon in the Belk parking lot at Apple Blossom Mall.
