As Camping for Hunger 2019 wraps up, we were broadcasting The Valley Today from the Camping for Hunger bus parked at Royal Plaza Shopping Center. All week, Valley Today guests have spoken about the under-served populations in our community and the ways we can help improve their quality of life through donations, services & support. Today we had a conversation with Nadine Pottinga, Executive Director for United Way of Northern Shenandoah Valley. We talked about the myths & misconceptions surrounding public assistance as well as the stigma that is sometimes associated with it. We also discussed the senior population and how they are especially susceptible to food insecurity and fall into that ALICE population that we've been discussing throughout the week.
