We pre-recorded today's conversation via Zoom with John Huddy, Director of Handley Regional Library to talk about the re-opening of their library facilities. John explained the services and occupancy limitations they've put in place to ensure the safety of their patrons and their staff. We talked about their new online chat feature which allows you to chat with a library professional in real time during their open hours via their website. He also talked about the importance of re-opening the library to be a resource to the community of workers who find themselves unemployed/underemployed during the pandemic. We talked about all the different career resources available in their digital library as well as the access to internet via their computer stations. John explained their sanitizing/cleaning process for books and materials that have been checked out and returned to the library, the ability to check out WiFi hotspots, and reminded us that Hoopla is still a great option for watching movies on your TV or tablet via your library membership. Finally, he told us about an upcoming book sale: The Friends "Expect the Unexpected" Used book sale happening at Bowman Library starting August 10, 2020 and running through August 22, 2020. This book sale has several new safety adjustments due to COVID-19.  Patrons will need to make an appointment to shop with a 1-hour time limit (following the library system’s adjusted public hours) by contacting Barbara Dickinson, Executive Director of the Friends of the Handley Regional Library System, at 540-662-9041 ext. 31 or friends@handleyregional.org.  Book prices will range from $1-$2 and will start with non-fiction titles only (poetry, history, nature, cookbooks, biographies, military history, classics, literature, health, financial literacy, armchair travel, gardening, and sheet music) which will be laid out in boxes around the room for shoppers to sort and pick their own selection.
