Our conversation for Tourism Tuesday - Shenandoah County edition - with Kary Haun from Shenandoah County Tourism took us to New Market to chat with Jon Henry, owner of Jon Henry General Store.

Jon gave us a bit of history for the building and how the old fashioned general store came to existence. We talked about the resources that he accessed during the pandemic that helped him to grow the business. He also gave us details for his expansion that included his purchase of the building next door that he will transform into a version of The Weaver Hotel that existed years ago. The store will also be expanding to add an additional 1500 square feet so that nutrition classes can also be offered courtesy of Virginia Tech students.

Jon Henry General Store focuses on sourcing local, regional and Fair Trade treats, gifts, and eats; just about everything from brooms, vintage license plates, jams & jellies, local honey, memorabilia, wooden toys, canned goods, snacks, candies, to gluten free flour fill the shelves. We talked about his food boxes (think CSA) and the perks to participating in the SNAP/EBT program.
