We were in the studio for a conversation with Sue Nixson from Winchester Area Temporary Thermal Shelter (WATTS) about the organization and their upcoming fundraiser.

The WATTS program is driven by a mission to offer a safe haven for homeless and at-risk individuals in the Winchester region during the cold weather months. Direct program support for WATTS is dependent on the generosity of individuals, corporations, foundations, church, and civic groups. WATTS is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

Sue gave us a rundown of some of the costs and how even small donations can make a big impact to further their mission

  • $30.00 shelters 1 guest for 1 night
  • $240.00 shelters 1 guest for 1 week
  • $900.00 shelters 1 guest for 1 month
  • $4200.00 shelters 1 guest for the season
Their Wizard of Oz Fundraiser happens on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 7pm - 10pm at West Oaks Farm Market & Event Center, 4305 Middle Rd.  Sue described it as a magical, wizardly evening in Oz partying with life-sized characters like the heartless Tin Man, the brainless Scarecrow, the Cowardly Lion and Dorothy with rock and roll hits from the Movin' On band. Dinner will be prepared by Fresco Kitchen and will feature themed dishes such as Glenda the Good Witch chicken pasta and the Wicked Witch of the West pasta primavera... to name a few.
